When faced with the dangerous task destroying
lethal biological and chemical weapons near a populated area, the
United States government looked for an air cleaning system to protect
its citizens. Since this was the first time the government incinerated
nerve agents like sarin this close to a populated area, they were
very careful to prepare for any accidental releases of these deadly
compounds. Residents of Calhoun County were provided with an Austin
Guardian 1 to protect them from any airborne threats during the
destruction of the stockpiles. The Guardian 1 was specifically designed

Test Report to the US Army Soldier, Biological Chemical Command
In the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and in response
to the resulting concern about biological threats to US citizens,
we have compiled some information on the effectiveness of the Austin
Air HealthMate Air Cleaners in dealing with airborne biological
threats. The following is a summary of an April 27, 2000, report
commissioned by the United States Army entitled, 'Test Report for
the System Effectiveness of Home/Commercial Portable Room Air Cleaners.'
The purpose of this test was to determine the effectiveness of commercially
available air cleaners at removing contaminant vapor (simulant)
from a sealed room. The reduction in the amount of vapor contamination
after the use of the air cleaner was measured. The Austin HM400
reduced the vapor concentration by 90% in less than 35 minutes.
Over 100 units were studied.
The Austin HM400 was amongst the most
effective of the commercial filter units in reducing the simulant
vapor dosage within the test room.
Military carbon cloth (the same kind used
in bio/chem suits) and activated carbon combine to adsorb hundreds
of harmful gases and vapors. This filter design is unique to the
Guardian 1 and provides unparalleled protection.
The addition of the Guardian 1 to Shelter
in Place kits provided to residents of Calhoun County ensured that
these kits far surpassed protections recommended by government agencies
to create a Shelter in Place.
When a building or room is tightly sealed,
contaminated outside air can still enter. The Austin Guardian 1
will reduce and eliminate the hazard of these vapors. We are very

citizens.
In the aftermath of the September 11th
attacks, Austin Air was there.
In the months following the collapse of the World Trade Center (WTC),
some Manhattan residents with asthma, reported that their asthma
worsened. When the Twin Towers fell they released tons of airborne
contaminants containing asbestos and other harmful particulate.
Austin Air cleaners with high-efficiency particle arresting "HEPA"
filters were distributed to remove the dust and harmful asbestos.
