"How can an organic mattress be waterproof?"

A few years back, a customer came to us looking for a fully waterproof mattress for her child made with organic cotton batting. She had done her research, and found Naturepedic to be the only organic mattress made with a non-toxic waterproof cover. She said it was the same non-toxic plastic used in grocery store produce bags and she wondered why we didn't sell this brand. Intrigued, we contacted Barry Cik, founder of Naturepedic and an environmental engineer, for full disclosure. Barry gave us a lesson in polymers that proved his outer waterproofing covers are made with "food grade" polyethylene, the only polymer that does not produce noxious gases. All Naturepedic mattresses are Green Guard certified to not offgas.
