A Man-Made Monster

UK research leads scientists to declare cancer a purely man-made disease, propelled by the excess of modern life.
A study of ancient remains has indicated that tumors, the malignant growths commonly associated with insidious cancers were quite rare until the modern era. A greater understanding of its origins and proliferation could lead to its eradication.
Professor Rosalie David, a visiting oncology-sciences professor at the University of Manchester, Manchester, UK, states that “There is nothing in the natural environment that can cause cancer. So it has to be a man-made disease, down to pollution and changes to our diet and lifestyle.”
Along with Professor David, Professor Michael Zimmerman has been accumulating vast amounts of data from many years by viewing Neanderthal remains and the mummified remains of Egyptians. “The important thing about our study is that it gives historical perspective to this disease. We can make very clear statements on the cancer rates in societies because we have a full overview. We have looked at millenia, not one hundred years and have masses of data.”
The best course of action recommended by scientists is that a healthy diet, regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight can prevent about a third of the most common cancers. Ostensibly, our ancestors' lifestyle reduced their risk from cancer.
