We all want to start each day off on the "right side of the bed," but it doesn't always happen that way. A poor night's sleep, financial worries, family obligations, work deadlines… these are all things that can sway our outlook for the day even before our first cup of coffee!

So how do you break that cycle? How can we ensure we have a great day, every day? 

The answer is focus. Focus on positivity and it will resonate. A recent article by MindBodyGreen describes a 30-second ritual that will ensure you get every day off to the right start: 

Step 1. Notice. 
Focus on what you have that you are grateful for. Starting the day off by giving thanks always puts our anxieties into perspective. Think of all the things that bring you joy or create feelings of happiness and put those into the forefront of your mind to start your day. 

Step 2. Pause. 
Be aware. Either pause to contemplate those things that make you happy and grateful, or journal about those things – a great tool to keep those items in the forefront of your mind. 

Step 3. Breathe. 
Take 10 slow, deep breaths. No, I'm not kidding. In through the nose, out through the mouth. 10.

Step 4. Repeat .
Practice makes perfect. 

When you first start this practice you may quickly realize just how fast our minds want to move on to other things, but do your best to bring your focus back to those specific things that evoked peace, joy or gratitude and complete those ten breaths. 

As the article describes: "Over time, with repetition, those ten breaths create a bookmark in your brain for those feeling states: joy, peace, love, gratitude, and happiness. And just like a physical bookmark, your brain will begin to be able to find those feelings more and more easily. You will start to see more and more things that you want to take ten breaths for."
